Protection of Porous Surfaces, Singapore

We make porous surfaces more resistant to defects

ENSURING THAT YOUR FLOORS ARE PROTECTED

Porous surfaces refer to surfaces that contain pores. A porous surface allows the passing through of water, liquid or vapor. Example of porous surfaces include untreated wood, ceramic tiles, marble, limestone, and slate.

It is important to protect your floors as porous surfaces are easily corroded and stains by spills. Even your common household cleaning detergent has the ability to corrode marble if it is acidic in nature. Acidic wine, coke and food items can also cause damages to your expensive floors.

When you protect your porous surfaces, what happens is that you add a layer of coating to the surface. This coating process is call impregnation.

Example of a protected floor surface.

IMPREGNATION OF SURFACE

Coating creates a barrier and forms a protective film on the surface of the stone to protect it from foot traffic, soil, dirt, oil, and other stains. At the same time, it allows the stone to ‘breathe’.

An impregnator penetrates below the surface and becomes repellent. They keep contaminants out but do not stop the moisture escaping from stone. Some impregnators have dual properties such as hydrophobic (water-repelling) as well as oleophobic (oil-repelling).

The end result is a surface that is more resistant to everyday wear and tear.
